Blancpain History

Old fashioned craftsmanship along with traditional style is what defines this brand.  Blancpain was founded in 1735 by Jean-Jacques Blancpain, a guiding principle of the company has never been a quartz watch made.   This ideology has earned them many accolades over the years although it nearly put them out of business as well. The family had run the business for generations and it became one of the most respected watch companies worldwide.

In 1953 the Fifty Fathoms watch was created and Jacques Cousteau wore it in the award winning film The World of Silence.  In the 1970’s Jean-Claude Biver, from Omega, intervened in the company and put it on a path of recovery after the influx of inexpensive Chinese and Japanese watches nearly put them out of business.  The strategy was to produce a limited number of mechanical watches annually, emphasize innovative creativeness and highly complicated timepieces.

Blancpain creates some of the most desired watches today as a result of this plan with each watchmaker building every watch from start to finish.  Fewer than 10,000 pieces are made per year, each are numbered and recorded in company archives.  Only mechanical watches done in round cases are made, they are classic and timeless in their design and stay true to the original principals of the founder and the family.
